Open Position: African Continent & South Africa Country Manager and Renewable Energy Engineer

Location: South Africa

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this position is the success and growth of the South Africa office of ArcVera
Renewables. The position requires an equal balance of work for clients while simultaneously managing
the business operation and client relationships and regular collaboration with ArcVera Renewables’
global team of technical consultants and staff.

Business development (30%):

● Initiate and develop business opportunities for ArcVera in Africa for revenue generation, in line
with the annual and long-term growth plan for the region.
● Maintain and grow positive and productive client relationships
● Pre-position, bring forth, research, champion, write, manage and/or participate in client
proposals, leveraging and working collaboratively with ArcVera experts from our global network
of offices and partner organisations.
● Build strategic alliances with local and international stakeholders in Africa, and establish and
manage a comprehensive network of key partners and clients across the region
● Develop key large-scale, renewable energy opportunities in Africa based on our global expertise
and local knowledge and network.
● Represent ArcVera across Africa by providing speeches, presentations, and media interviews that
explain what we do and market our work across the region.
● Establish relationships with major regional financial institutions to establish Bankability for
ArcVera’s services and products.
● Create and deliver client proposals and track them using CRM and cloud-based collaboration
tools, on time, with budgets that reflect corporate goals.
● Client development and outreach. Execute quarterly email campaigns to in-country and regional
targets. Conduct regular face-to-face meetings at in-country conferences or sales calls.
● Market and promote ArcVera services throughout the region through participation in regional
Renewable Energy conferences and industry events.

Delivery (50% – subject to change as the South Africa staff grows and management responsibilities grow
accordingly):

● Work on client projects
● Provide direction and leadership for all of ArcVera’s projects across Africa, working
collaboratively with colleagues and partners.
● Manage client renewable energy projects and coordinate technical details between client and
ArcVera team members.
● Quality control deliverables and ensure that they meet or exceed client expectations
● Provide performance oversight across a portfolio of projects in Africa to ensure that the outputs
are delivered on time and within budget, and contribute meaningfully to our mission

Strategy, team management and operations (10% – subject to change as the South Africa staff grows):

● Develop, agree, and implement the strategy for ArcVera in Africa, which will be approved by the
ArcVera Executive Leadership, and provide input to the company’s wider international strategy.
● Lead the ArcVera office ensuring that the office is a productive and happy place to work and that
all team members are suitably supported and inspired in their roles.
● Ensure effective coordination with other teams across the company, including delivery-focused
business units and shared services, to ensure that the ArcVera Africa team is aligned with all
internal procedures and bringing the best of ArcVera to all client engagements.
● Build out the team and oversee all recruitment into the office
● Plan, write, and review client deliverables, within committed budgets and timelines
● Ensure team members meet or exceed minimum utilization targets
● Deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports to the parent office
financial team and Executive team as required
● Ensure office cash flow, including by keeping the monthly cash flow analysis updated, and
ensuring projects are delivered profitably and invoiced on time
● Communicate and collaborate with the parent company financial team at the requisite pace,
● Ensure that the office and team comply with the relevant accounting and legal regulations. Lead
on health, safety, and environment policies for all ArcVera activities and employees across
Africa. Ensure that ArcVera policies including procurement, anti-bribery, and personal conduct
are followed.

Knowledge management and learning (10%):

● Monitor the development of the team, technologies and market trends across Africa to
understand market potential and to develop new capabilities to deliver impact
● Keep track of policy news, publications, and events on relevant topics including corporate
sustainability, accounting, green finance, energy transition (covering energy efficiency,
renewable energy, and energy systems), agriculture, and sustainable transport
● Keep up to date with the development of new propositions and initiatives across the rest of
ArcVera, and ensure that the office’s knowledge management systems are effective.
● Communicate regarding opportunities, products, and services for the region to the parent office
and participate in Strategic Planning

Office responsibilities

● Ensure all accounting is completed promptly and efficiently, working directly with the in-country
and corporate accounting teams.
● Ensure payment of all invoices sent to clients Net 30.
● Recruit, Interview, and manage hired personnel.
● Lead ArcVera Culture, as defined in the AV Culture Statement, by example. Enforce
high-performance standards while holding yourself accountable and to an even higher standard.
● Ensure taxes are completed per country law on-time and promptly.
● Ensure bills are paid net 30 and transfer received monies in excess of accounts payable in local
currency to ArcVera Headquarters on a monthly basis.
● Ensure all proposals are in top shape for submission to clients. Being specific to client
deliverables, promptly completed, as concise as possible, with full terms and conditions
included, and devoid of typographical errors, spelling errors, client information errors, signature
page errors, header or footer errors, date errors, and are full and complete.
● Respond to all clients in a professional and timely manner.
● Manage projects, including tracking budgets and schedules and assigning team members to
complete the scope of work to meet or exceed the client’s expectations
● Ensure time is entered accurately in company software for all personnel per Company policy
● Perform technical work as an individual contributor, within your area of expertise, including work
on projects on other continents

Talents And Experience Required:

7+ years consulting experience in the Renewable Energy Industry
● A university or college degree in Renewable Energy, Engineering, or Atmospheric Science

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform due diligence as an independent engineer in areas of expertise
  • Must have familiarity with a solar project site to conduct inspections to confirm and evaluate site conditions, constructability and completion milestones
  • Ability to review and comment on the design and engineering of solar or storage layouts related to applicable codes and standards of the US
  • Perform certain solar modeling and design using industry standard software (PVsyst, SAM, PVcase, CAD, GIS, HOMER)
  • Perform reviews of EPC contracts to confirm suitability and milestone achievements based on technical data (functional testing, capacity testing, electrical tests, reliability)
  • Interpret codes, standards and regulatory requirements for the purpose of providing internal guidance and technical advisory services to clients

  • Must be a subject matter expert in an area that includes interconnection, transmission, design engineering, structural foundation design, environmental permitting, or manufacturing (inverters/modules/batteries)
  • Great familiarity with the role of the independent engineer and an understanding of deal flow of the US market for tax equity financing

Position Overview

The Director of Business Development – Global is responsible for the organizational and operations of ArcVera Renewables’ business development functions including sales management and marketing. With the guiding purpose of nurturing and growing the company’s gross revenue and net income, the Director of Business Development – Global leads both domestic US and international business development activities of the organization; developing and driving ArcVera’s success and growth with a focus on global territory expansions, new renewable energy technical service categories, and managing a top performing business development team focused on the development of new and existing ArcVera client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

● Overall management of all strategic and operational marketing and customer relationship activities.
● Is the evangelizing champion of the customer relationship management (CRM) platform; owns account development and management processes and client relationship success.
● Orchestrates the creation and ongoing development and management of a professional global business development team consisting of technical subject matter experts who are also responsible for business development objectives and goals.
● Participates in company strategic planning initiatives and providing market feedback to the company leadership regarding competitive offerings, prospect needs, and generating business development ideas.
● Initiates new or modified product ideas and pricing strategies, including e-commerce. Internally manages teams to develop plans to expand new and existing service categories.
● Travel:
– The person in this position will travel ~25% (12 weeks per year) to attend trade events, and visit with clients and prospects;
– The majority of travel will be domestic, with some primacy if the East Coast/NYC corridor to work in the finance industry as required;
– International travel will be required from time to time and as needed as the global business development and sales team is built.
● Management of the business development and marketing functions of the business.

● Working with Company leadership, defining and managing annual business development budgets.

Requirements

● Experience in working with senior management to align business development strategies and solutions.

Position Overview

ArcVera Renewables seeks a highly motivated analyst for our wind energy analysis team.  This person should be client-serving, highly-skilled, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and experienced wind energy technical analyst, well-suited to join our global team of dedicated atmospheric scientists and renewable energy engineers. Aptitude in business development and client management is required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Three to five years of experience conducting wind energy technical analysis from prospecting through development, finance/IE, operations, and repowering.
  • Data processing and programming skills along with a knack for numbers.

Open Position: Solar Engineering Consultant

Position Overview

ArcVera Renewables is seeking an experienced solar engineer to reinforce and complement ArcVera Renewables’ solar resource and Independent Engineering (“IE”) advisory services. This individual will play a key role technically supporting multiple projects on many levels of technical staff and scopes in markets around the globe. The individual will perform solar energy resource assessments and must understand the underlying fundamentals of solar PV system design, technologies and commercial fundamentals. The analysis of solar energy projects involves working across a range of responsibilities, including meteorological data evaluation, application of modeling techniques, methodologies, and uncertainty analysis for a range of clientele.

In addition, the individual is expected to understand and speak to aspects of the project life from development through construction and interpret technical aspects of commercial contracts such as interconnection, equipment supply, construction, and O&M agreements. The position requires a level of engagement internally and with clients, rigor, and high attention to detail in technical aspects, high-quality written communication, client handling, top-notch problem solving, project management, decisionmaking under uncertain circumstances, and ability to develop productive and professional interpersonal relationships. It is expected that the individual will be self-motivated, detail oriented and uphold ArcVera Renewables’ opinions with timely client responses.

The role requires competency in technical engineering aspects, construction and interconnection of utility scale solar projects, as well as experience with solar energy simulation modeling, basic solar technology and system design, and an understanding of commercial contracts or studies (environmental, permitting, PPAs, interconnection, O&M, MSAs). It also requires maintaining current knowledge of advancements in solar power technology and current market conditions for commercial agreements.
The position includes interfacing with existing and potential clients (in-person), attending industry conferences, preparing proposals, and collaborating with principals and other colleagues in ArcVera Renewables growing solar energy practice. The person in this role is expected to thrive among colleagues, enjoy engaging with market participants, is comfortable with preparing and presenting at trade
conferences, self-developing, and developing with others, while staying abreast of industry-leading developments.

The individual is expected to conduct themselves professionally in all industry interactions and uphold ArcVera Renewable’s standards and integrity.

● Timely and efficient completion, or oversight of such completion by the solar team, of highquality
renewable energy analysis work, including written communication;
● Carry out pre-construction, IE, and operational energy assessments, including due diligence,
review, validation, of engineering designs and commercial contracts;
● Review engineering designs and understand optimization of solar plants to meet client needs;
● Identify risks and opportunities as it relates to technical designs (civil, geotechnical, electrical)
and commercial agreements;
● Comprehend project deals and identify commercial risks as it relates to technical inputs and
design;
● Evaluate project constraints, risks, and other non-quantitative aspects of project
development;
● Support the solar team with useful developments and evolve methodologies focuses on
mastering subject matter during downtime;
● Contribute to and review report deliverables, energy reports and other analyses for clients;
● Assist in developing company quality standards related to solar energy;
● Understand and ensure company quality standards are met;
● Support business development activities, including meeting with clients to explain technical
details clearly and concisely;
● Manage solar projects to satisfy client objectives; and
● Ability to speak up early with clarity if issues arise that, if left unaddressed, could create
further problems.

Qualifications

Required:

● Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or construction management from an
accredited university;
● Five plus years’ experience in the solar sector and ability to interpret regulations codes and
standards;
● Five plus years’ experience with related industry knowledge in the power sector pertaining to the
development, construction or operations of plants with knowledge of independent engineering
practice;
● Knowledge of technical specifications that affect performance for solar modules, inverters,
trackers and other project components, and the ability read and read and evaluate the legitimacy
of technical specifications, claims, warranties, and technical requirements of commercial
contracts;
● Ability to manage projects and related SMEs of project team to support deadlines and client
objectives;
● Strong ability to communicate clear and concisely on a variety of technical subjects;
● Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, programming software and data platforms;
● Familiarity with solar resource models;
● Ability to travel as needed to solar sites and conferences, or company events (up
to 20 percent travel);
● Meticulous with the ability to work under short deadlines in a fast-paced
environment;
● Demonstrated skills managing both projects and personnel;
● Excellent report organization, report and proposal preparation, writing and presentation skills
and being able to communicate opinions and conclusions clearly and concisely.

Preferred

● Master’s degree (in engineering or business administration) with a technical undergraduate
degree from an accredited university;
● Seven plus years’ experience in the solar and renewable energy sector, including consulting
experience and working as or with independent engineers;
● Comprehensive understanding of technical project finance and
● Working knowledge of current PV technology, engineering and commercial contracts, with a
specific focus in either civil engineering, electrical engineering, or environmental engineering;
● Proven track record with subject matter expertise. Deep understanding of engineering
principles related applicable codes and industry standards; and
● Analysis of periodic events, identification and allocation of performance issues and
supporting clients in buy and sell side opportunities.

● Delivery of on-time analysis products and reports with minimal/near-zero errors
● Achieve designated monthly and annual productivity targets for client and overhead time
● Demonstrated ability to engage in complex tasks with improving efficiency
● Adherence to stated individual performance goals on annual basis
● Achieve 95% satisfaction rate with clients
● Client utilization commensurate with consultant level (e.g., 100 billable hours per month)
