ONSHORE WIND ENERGY PROJECTS

Experience & Project Technical Expertise

Four Decades of Excellence in Atmospheric Science and Wind Project Engineering

ArcVera’s atmospheric scientists, data analysts, and engineers leverage their advanced technical expertise and decades of global experience in the wind industry to meet the needs of landowners, project developers and sponsors, investors, and project owners and operators.

ArcVera’s acumen and experience in the disciplines of atmospheric science stem from the origins of the commercial wind energy business in the late 1970s. These assets enable us to deliver strategic insight and project optimization beyond what turn-the-crank models provide as guidance.

Our experience has shown that each project has unique characteristics that require site-specific and client-specific thinking in order to maximize value. Our track record extends across six continents and includes analysis of over 6,100 meteorological towers. ArcVera’s proprietary mesoscale wind flow modeling system is state-of-the-science, globally-applicable, high-resolution, and cloud-based.

Engineers at ArcVera have worked on wind turbine design, testing, and evaluation since 1990. We have deep knowledge of and work experience with all wind turbine models that are operating commercially today, including models installed as long ago as the 1980s. Our engineers have performed detailed wind turbine technology reviews on more than 130 models of wind turbines. In support of warranty claims preparation and reviews, we have conducted more than 200 component failure investigations. Additionally, ArcVera has completed over 40 power performance tests.

The company regularly participates in industry initiatives such as standards development and wind turbine user’s groups. ArcVera represents the United States on the IEC committee that develops standards for wind turbine power performance testing (61400-12-1), nacelle lidar power performance testing (61400-50-3) and energy assessment (61400-15).

ArcVera Renewables’ extensive wind energy expertise is applicable to both land- and offshore-based wind projects.

Our current offshore experience continues to grow – in Europe, the ArcVera offshore team is currently involved in the resource assessment for an offshore wind project and we are actively preparing independent engineering analyses for clients in the US.

Also in the US, where the offshore market has been maturing for several years, ArcVera has contributed its wind resource acumen to technically support the Cape Wind project and modeled offshore areas in Hawaii and California for prospecting purposes. It has evaluated high-resolution satellite-derived ocean wind speed datasets, and has completed FLIDAR (offshore floating lidar wind measurements) analysis for the New York Bight among other locations.

ArcVera has also provided its state-of-the-science wind energy application mesoscale modeling technique and energy assessment for various offshore wind development projects in the Caribbean, West Coast of the US, and the North Sea.

Other applications of its expertise include wind turbine technology reviews and power performance testing for offshore applications. An ArcVera principal is one of two US experts serving on the IEC 61400-50-3 committee for power curve measurement using nacelle lidar – a new IEC standard intended largely to be used for offshore power performance testing.

With an emphasis on its industry-leading mesoscale modeling, data and energy resource, and turbine engineering and testing expertise, ArcVera Renewables recognizes the technical challenges of understanding the offshore wind resource and the wind turbine technologies that reliably turn the resource into power. The ArcVera team’s deep bench of engineering, atmospheric science, and wind resource expertise is standing by to support your offshore wind project success.
