Renewable Energy Power Plant Optimization Services

Our project optimization services ensure that your renewable energy assets operate to their full potential.

We optimize wind and solar assets by using reliable and technologically advanced atmospheric science and renewable energy engineering data analysis methods buttressed by over 30 years of experience.

Understanding significant under- or over-prediction can provide critical information toward continuous resource assessment improvement.  Root cause analysis of outliers in energy prediction relative to actual production includes poor on-site monitoring campaigns, calculation errors, power curve version, and turbine or module performance.

Our full suite of project optimization services includes:

  • Post-construction operational energy production evaluation and re-forecasting expected net energy and P-Values
  • SCADA data analysis, wind farm down-time, and performance assessment
  • Portfolio performance analysis and co-varying production benefits
  • Power plant energy production improvement and life extension strategies
  • Monthly or quarterly solar and wind farm performance analysis
  • Short-term, day-ahead and long-term forecasting requirements for operational wind and solar farms
«Responsiveness is a big part of how ArcVera delivers such high-quality services: They’re on the issue promptly, know the right solution, and deliver it quickly. It was ArcVera’s responsiveness on a last-minute site suitability problem that helped us to meet our financial closure deadline for the 300 MW Ranchero project.»

Ventus Project

  • Capacity: 54 MW
  • Turbine type: Vestas V-136 (3.6 MW)

  • Location: El Guajoyo, El Salvador
  • Online date: December 2020

ArcVera Renewables’ work for the Ventus project demonstrates how our expertise and experience in mesoscale modeling and micrositing produce precise results that deliver maximum project value. Situated in El Salvador, the project is also an example of our growing portfolio of first in-country wind farms in Latin America.

The project developer, Ventus SA de CV, is a unit of Guatemalan and Honduran power generation operator Tracia Network, and the project is located near La Cañada, a city in the municipality of Metapán. Having observed our techniques and successful performance over the past 15 years, Ventus’ choice of ArcVera was a confident one. Our record of projects that are operating at high-performance levels (relative to ArcVera pre-construction energy estimates) and that are providing above-average returns was among the factors that drove Ventus’ decision-making.

Case Study

Venture project

To support the project’s development and ensure maximum competitiveness and financing, ArcVera provided:

  • prospecting analysis and advisement to support the project’s bid into El Salvador’s energy auction
  • high-resolution mesoscale modeling and energy assessment
  • array energy production optimization and field micrositing
  • meteorological tower recommendations and inspection
  • owner’s engineer services with respect to turbine manufacturer questions
  • power performance testing advisory services
  • a bankable wind energy resource assessment report

As a part of our work, we took into account preliminary assessments done by an earlier supplier using conventional computational fluid dynamics modeling (CFD). The supplier’s CFD-generated data had indicated the winds on the east side of the project would be greater than those on the west side.

ArcVera offers high-resolution mesoscale modeling to maximize project outcomes, especially in sites with complex terrain and meteorology like those of Metapán. These were important considerations for Ventus when deciding on a wind consultant. As a result of our mesoscale modeling and subsequent meteorological tower measurements, ArcVera proved the earlier CFD modeling data to be inaccurate; in fact, the winds on the west were actually highest.

The combination of ArcVera’s precise flow predictions—which proved that the west winds were higher, and meticulous desktop and field layout optimization enabled Ventus to not only win El Salvador’s first energy auction, but also improve the project’s net capacity factor by 150 basis points. Financing has been successfully secured and the project is now under construction.

Serra das Vacas I-V & VII Wind Farms

  • Capacity: 141.3 MW
  • Turbine type: GE-1.7/100, GE-1.7/103, GE-2.3/116
  • Location: Garanhuns, Pernambuco, Brazil
  • Online date: December 2015, September-December 2017

ArcVera Renewables’ work on the Serra das Vacas wind farm complex spans the project’s entire life cycle to date: site assessment for expansion and optimization, site visits, expanding wind measurement campaign, high-resolution mesoscale modeling, development stage wind reports, turbine layout design, micrositing, financing wind energy resource assessment reports, operational assessment, and bond rating financing reporting. In a 2017 independent ITAU bank study of Brazil wind farms with bond financing, Serra das Vacas I-IV was identified as the top-performing wind farm relative to pre-construction energy projections. A 2017 Fitch Ratings report confirmed that the project is performing on par with expectations.
